Emily’s Story

Emily

“We really built a relationship, which made it easier to talk through things I was facing for college. The Future Center was a safe haven for me.”

I found out about the Future Center my sophomore year when I took advantage of the Hands on Health Day event at Gundersen. I had ideas about health care but didn’t really know what I wanted to do. After doing that, I liked it even more.

I began to connect with Ms. Moe after my friends told me how helpful she was with college applications, assisting with essay writing, and strategies when applying to school. Ms. Moe’s assistance greatly helped me prepare for my plans after high school.

We really built a relationship, which made it easier to talk through things I was facing for college. The Future Center was a safe haven for me and I felt Ms. Moe really knew my interests. For example, she even connected me with opportunities like the Cadaver Lab program provided through AHEC. There were a few spots that opened up and she contacted me to fill one, and I was super excited about it.

The quiet and calming environment of the Future Center was beneficial to me to write and communicate with Ms. Moe. I needed help with my writing because it was not my strength and she assisted me. The Future Center is a place where I could chill, write, brainstorm and then bust out some essays. She helped me tremendously with finishing up my applications and pushing me to apply for many scholarships. This was good for me because I am a very involved individual who does not have a lot of free time, which made little time to work on applications and scholarships.

I would recommend that all students take advantage of the Future Center for the career exploration events that pop up, college tours, and help with college applications and scholarships. Their services are so great and it’s such a nice environment to work and ask for help.

Ms. Moe helped me finalize my decisions and inspired me to become more confident. At first, I was very unsure what school to choose for college but after making lists and weighing out my options, I finally made a decision.

It would have been very difficult to make this decision without the help from the Future Center.
