La Crosse Promise Intern

Fall 2018

La Crosse Promise is a non-profit organization working to economically transform La Crosse, Wis., and improve the quality of life for all citizens through a strong commitment to education. This position will primarily focus on our longest-running program, the Future Centers. Future Centers, located in La Crosse high schools, help students with college applications, financial aid forms, scholarships, and other resources to maximize their potential for career success. There are also opportunities to contribute to our nationally-unique neighborhood revitalization program.

Description: La Crosse Promise is looking for an intern for the Fall 2018 semester interested in an experience with a unique non-profit organization. An interested individual may apply for both positions.

We are seeking a motivated individual to help with the implementation of various programs. This candidate will gain experience in different aspects of our non-profit organization. It is essential that applicants to this position have excellent communication skills, demonstrate creativity, and understand the importance of attending to the smallest of details.

Goals of the internship: Practical experience in a non-profit organization and working on community programs that benefit students directly and the community at-large indirectly.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Assist Future Center advisors in advising students on post-secondary education planning
  • Coordinate and promote events and workshops related to the goals of the La Crosse Promise
  • Chaperone and serve as a role model to students during off-site events
  • Assist with marketing and communications, which may include print and online pieces (including social media).
  • Assist with mailings and print production
  • Assist in outreach to families, students and community members
  • New responsibilities may be added as the position and organization evolves

Requirements:

We are seeking a wide range of skills, so don’t hesitate to apply. Students applying for this internship must demonstrate professionalism, be responsible and punctual, and possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates also must have solid writing and research skills. Graphic design skills are a plus. The position is open to students from any discipline, but students interested in student affairs, social work, business, communications, psychology or public service are especially encouraged to apply. This is an unpaid position.
